Seelai Karzai is a writer, educator, and cultural organizer living in Vermont.
Hailing from Queens, New York, Seelai is a member of the Afghan American Artists & Writers Association. Her work has been published in The Massachusetts Review, Harvard Divinity Bulletin, the anthology New Moons: Contemporary Writing by North American Muslims, and has earned support from the Vermont Arts Council, Poetry Foundation, and the Virginia G. Piper Center. She is co-editor, with poet Sahar Muradi, of EMERGENC(Y): Afghan Lives Beyond the Forever War: An Anthology of Writing from Afghanistan and its Diaspora.
Seelai earned her MFA from the University of Oregon. When she’s not reading or writing, she’s baking savory and sweet breads, skiing, or hiking. Seelai is currently at work on her debut book of poems.
